THE COMPANY
ATLAS Hovercraft, Inc. is an American owned, Florida
based, corporation engaged in the design and manufacturing of air cushion
vehicles more commonly known as hovercraft. Kurt H. Peterson is the president
and senior hovercraft design engineer. Mr. Peterson has professional and
personal history in the aviation and marine industries. In addition, he is a
seasoned professional who gained a great deal of experience working for major
corporations in the technology and transportation fields. His experience,
talents, and technology are the foundation blocks that built ATLAS Hovercraft
and his vision of the future guides the company to new horizons.
ATLAS Hovercraft, Inc. is positioned to become the
largest hovercraft design and manufacturing company in the world. The air
cushion vessels designed by Kurt H. Peterson possess advanced features that
overcome many of prior hovercraft shortcomings such as low maneuverability,
high maintenance costs and high noise. A hovercraft has the unique ability to
travel over land or water on a bubble of air. The basic scientific principles
and concepts that make a hovercraft work are over 100 years old. The technology
to make hovercraft viable for military and commercial applications, however,
did not exist until the mid 1950's. Since the 1960's, hovercraft have been
built worldwide for military, commercial passenger service, and recreation
purposes.
GOALS
ATLAS Hovercraft is actively working to
promote the benefits of commercial hovercraft in the United States markets. The
goals include opening satellite production and maintenance facilities in key
locations to better service clients and expand future operations to other
countries. The company offers its services to assist in the creation of new
ventures and the enhancement of existing public transportation systems and
private companies.
COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES
ATLAS Hovercraft, Inc. has
four significant market advantages over competing hovercrafts and conventional
high speed ferry boats. The competitive advantages includes: performance, lower
overall cost of ownership; accessible / navigable waterways; and operating
speed.
-
Performance
The ATLAS Hovercraft has the same great characteristics of all
hovercrafts. They have the ability to operate on water, land, and ice at high
levels of operating speed and efficiencies for an extended duration of time.
The ATLAS Hovercraft has revolutionary controllability and the first ever
hovercraft to have a real braking system. The "Thrust Vectored Propulsion
System" allows the air ducts to be directed 180o. This provides for greater
control when steering and the ability to apply air pressure forward to become
the braking system.
Cost of Ownership
ATLAS Hovercraft Inc. is excited by the manufacturing techniques
chosen to develop and construct the ATLAS Hovercraft. We utilize two techniques
that deliver a significant reduction to the operating and building cost. The
hull is built using modular components. Molds are used to build pieces of the
hull. Each mold is used for any size hovercraft medium to heavy lift
configuration. This substantially reduces the labor time and resources to build
the hull. The propulsion system is powered by electric motors. The electricity
is generated from a series of diesel electric generator sets. This off the
shelf technology is available from every major diesel engine manufacturer. This
configuration provides for maximum engine performance and life. Remanufacturing
cycles are over double utilizing this configuration. Fuel consumption is very
predictable and optimized versus throttling the engine. ATLAS Hovercraft Inc.
estimates the annual cost of ownership advantage versus conventional high speed
ferries to be in excess of $2,000,000.
Accessibility / Navigability
The ATLAS Hovercraft is capable of operating on water, land, and ice.
Thus routes never before navigable are now capable. The vessel is expected to
earn a "no wake" status at an operating speed of 20 mph. This is an incredible
rating. Many environmental and ecological impact areas are encountered by ferry
boats daily. The ATLAS hovercraft will be the vessel of choice by the
environmentalist and planners. Many northern ports are accessible three seasons
per year. Our vessel provides year round service to such areas.
Speed
Long ferry routes are being upgraded with service from high speed
ferries. The ATLAS Hovercraft is capable of traveling safely with a full
compliment of passengers at speeds up to 70 knots. The Alaska State Highway
System has several routes that are over 200 miles long. Those routes are being
upgraded to a service level of 30 knots. Imagine if it were serviced at 65
knots and with no change in fuel consumption!
